The year 2020, hit us so hard that many people can relate to that effect. We are NOT actually prepared for it. We had welcome this year with so much hope but ends up being financially and emotionally broke. The eruption of the famous Taal Volcano in Batangas Province, the earthquakes in Mindanao and now, the global pandemic of COVID-19 is threatening the whole country of its steadiness and resilience in facing an invisible enemy of humanity. Many businesses were forced to temporarily shut down their operations. Schools, churches, malls and parks are closed. Heavy traffic lightened, most likely nothing at all. In just a blink of an eye, the world was struck by a catastrophe that we never foresee to happen. During these times, the constant struggle to stay alive is very dominant. Unemployment due to retrenchment or company bankruptcy widely spread throughout the land.

Sadly, the country’s economy is the first to suffer the blow of this pandemic. The national government, in partnership with private sectors is extending all the assistance that they can provide to every Filipino affected by this crisis. On the lighter note, these difficult times teaches us the value of humility and the ability to care for people who we don’t personally know at all. This brings us back to our core value as a human being-- caring and loving for one another. This is now the HOPE that our country is holding on, the pillar in which we will built our new nation. Although the battle has not yet been ended, slowly people are trying to pick up the pieces of their brokenness. Small businesses are trying to operate on our NEW NORMAL basis. Manufacturing plants are operating on shifting schedules for workers. But, still, the big deal question is….

HOW CAN WE SURVIVE THIS ECONOMIC CRISIS?

Let us focus on the vast effect of this pandemic on our own business. We, on digital printing industry, suffered heavy blow on this crisis, since our product doesn’t belong to first class basic necessity of the community. Mass gathering had been, and still, not advisable to the general public after the Enhanced Community Quarantine, thus limiting our services to minimal demand. Many of us chose to sell their supplies and machines to venture on a different business field. How can we protect our industry? The call for “Support Local Products” became very distinct and insistent. We urge our family and friends to support local entrepreneur in our community. What are the advantages of supporting local products?

• · It upgrades domestic earnings in the community
• · It shows care and respect to local business owners and community
• · It creates more jobs within the areas
• · It requires less cost such as transportation and outsourcing fee
• · It helps building small businesses back into their own feet again

This is a simple and basic step in building our economy back into good shape after the Pandemic. We all hope for a better tomorrow, thus encouraging our family, friends, and neighbors by this humble act makes a lot of difference for both the local government and local entrepreneur.

Supporting local products are not just limited into shopping. There are some more ways in supporting this cause in our own manner. Supporting them on social media by liking and sharing their post is the new and modern way of promoting local entrepreneurs.

There is joy and constructive purpose on local shopping. So when given a chance in shopping between local stores and big superstore, choose the local option for the reason that we stated. And soon we will rise again together as one community and one country! God bless us all.
